"Saving H'non" is a stunning comic book created by Trang Nguyen (writer) and Jeet Dzung (illustrator), who were also the masterminds behind the Eisner-nominated "Saving Sorya: Chang and the Sun Bear". This middle-grade graphic novel is based on a true story and follows the journey of a young conservationist who defies all odds to save an elephant and return it to its natural habitat. The artwork is breathtaking and adds to the beauty of this heartwarming adventure.
I am filled with admiration for Jeet Dzung's painting skills and personality, and my love for nature has led me to volunteer to assist them with research, analysis, and drawing in the pre-production phase. To ensure that the book is as authentic as possible, we are conducting research on the trees in H'non's local area, which is Yok Don National Park. My role is to analyze and draw them precisely so that the author can refer to them in the book. Additionally, I am providing solutions for the story structure and creating color keys for certain pages.
This book has received numerous positive reviews and was awarded the Vietnam National Book Award. Vietnamese and foreign critics have praised the book for its ability to raise awareness about wildlife conservation among local children. Personally, I found it a great pleasure to meet the author and illustrator. I learned a lot from them, the way they live their lives with passion and always strive for excellence inspired me to become a better version of myself.
